A Heap of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays
The Christmas holidays present a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items emerged over the festive period, and just in case you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a good sign. Yet, the main art for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, nowadays, they must be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
