Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, considerable delays are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.

Travelers are still being urged to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
