Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs About Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only half a year following instigating disrespectful taunts directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year time at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.

One of the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting insulting songs about Wilder during Leeds' success festivities in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous History Between Bamford & Wilder

Both men had a past before Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

All appears has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
