The Streaming Platform is Developing a Far Cry TV Show from the Creators of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The latest Far Cry game that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, which featured Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the antagonist, Antón, and came out on October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it is known for embracing action and insanity with similar enthusiasm, all while presenting captivating, socially charged narratives. It’s no surprise that FX's decision for a Far Cry limited-run show brought on board two creators whose creations have represented all of those qualities.

What to Expect

Based on Ubisoft's successful video game series, the limited anthology series will stream on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The show will also mirror the video games' format by featuring a fresh setting and cast of characters in each season.

Creative Minds

Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the visionary behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will work as lead producers on the series through their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.

We’ve shared outstanding relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is innovative, compelling, and extremely entertaining. We also want to thank our collaborators at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this popular property.”

Cast and Future Plans

Mac will also appear in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what part that might entail. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for another season, with FX and Disney finalizing a new comprehensive agreement with the showrunner.

“Being able to collaborate together with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly accommodating, placing faith in us with one of the most renowned video-game universes ever created. And along the way, my FX family continues to lift me up with their steady belief and assistance.”

“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style series. Each game is a take of a concept, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a story,” noted Hawley. “To produce a big action show that can change from season to season, while always exploring the essence of society through this multifaceted and turbulent perspective, is a ultimate goal. I’m excited to collaborate with Rob and introduce our mutual bold, ambitious sensibility to the audience.”

A time frame for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
