Unveiling an Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found a variety of interesting independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is truly a piece of poop striving to make its way to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is simple: you only need a jump control. In 150 challenges, battle mini-bosses and unlock a shop to purchase customizations for your dung hero.
Execute your jumps carefully, as a error means starting over. Bounce on floating orbs to propel yourself higher, traverse crumbling platforms, and touch switches to unlock new areas. Gather coins for buying tougher levels where the action intensifies.
In terms of design, the experience boasts vibrant stages and catchy soundtrack. The simple visual style with moving geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to name other games where you are a dung character, video games often incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. Naturally, this theme appears heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, such as winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on PC this November.
